HDD defect?

Hai, Ik heb net een paar maanden geleden een nieuwe schijf gekregen van western digital omdat de oude stuk was. Ik ben net terug van een vakantie van twee weken en wil de boel opstarten en krijg vervolgens te maken met een tikkende hdd die niet wil opstarten. Het lijkt erop alsof de schrijver/lezer vast zit. Is mijn schijf nu stuk of valt er nog iets mee te doen, er staan nl. nog wat leuke dingen op die ik graag terugzie. Het betreft een WD Caviar 450AA EIDE. Alvast bedankt voor je reactie.. Grt ben.

Heb je al bij de support afdeling van WD gekeken? Misschien dat daar wat bij staat. Als het een mechanisch probleem is ben ik bang dat er niets meer aan te doen is.

Komt mij bekend voor. Heb dat ook eens gehad (en ook met een WD geloof ik). Van alles mee geprobeerd (flink mee geschud enz.), maar toch tot de conclusie moeten komen dat-ie overleden was. In de knowledgebase van WD vind je het volgende: Problem: My drive is making a repeated clicking sound. Cause: There are several possible causes for this problem. Faulty data cable Incorrect BIOS settings (EIDE drives in PC systems) Incorrect configuration (SCSI drives) Data corruption or the drive may be defective Resolutions: Please see below for possible resolutions to each of the causes above. Solution 1 Turn off your computer system and disconnect the data cable (IDE or SCSI) to the drive that is making the noise. Do NOT remove the power cable. Turn your computer system back on. If the clicking noise still persists, your drive is defective and needs to be replaced. Please see Answer ID 8 for details about product replacement. If the drive does not make the same clicking noise, then you have a faulty cable. Replace the data cable. Solution 2 Verify that your EIDE drive is properly detected by the system BIOS. For assistance with this see Answer ID 54. Solution 3 Make sure that each SCSI device has a unique SCSI ID. Assure that you have the D TRGT INIT jumper set on any WD drives (pins 21 and 22). Check that the SCSI bus is properly terminated on BOTH ends. SCSI controllers will have an option in the controller utility to set termination for the card. The end device opposite the controller should be providing termination as well. This can be a drive, other device, or an external terminator. Solution 4 Test your drive to determine if the clicking is the result of data corruption or the result of physical problems with the drive. For EIDE drives, use the diagnostic included with our Data Lifeguard Tools 10 software. For SCSI drives, use your controller's Verify Media test (recommended) or use our SCSI Workbench Utility. Misschien dat hier een oplossing bij zit. Als dit inderdaad in korte tijd al je tweede WD is die gecrasht is, zou ik van WD verlangen dat zij de data voor je proberen te herstellen. Wim.

Ik vrees ook dat ze haar laatste adem uitgeblazen heeft. Gouden raad: nooit op één opslagmedium vertrouwen om je data op te zetten: steeds op vb je hd èn daarbij nog op (vb) een cd, op een tweede hd, ... Op een tweede partitie is ook goed op voorwaarde dat die partitie dan op een tweede hd staat, want op een tweede partitie van dezelfde hd zou in jouw geval ook niet helpen...
