In reply to: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One question, though....so far, they've all been very, very FPS-oriented? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, you have seen 3 shots, and 1 of them is FPS.. Hmmm.. There is A LOT more than what you have seen so far. --- In reply to: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VP old boy, I was wondering if 3DMark03 would also bench Intel's Hyperthreading? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's a valid question. If you don't mind we'll answer to specific technology related questions as soon as the counter has reached 'zero', okay? *wicked grin* (In fact, we've actually written a rather lenghty white paper about the specific technologies used in 3DMark03 which will include _all_ detailed tech info. We'll release that at the same time with the benchmark.) --- BTW - that's neither an orc nor an ogre....it's actually a...oops! Best not say anything! Patric (andere FM member ->Baxcorp) will spank me --- In reply to: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- are those orcs static? or do they move, thats what I want to know... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Those "orcs" are moving, of course. --- In reply to: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Exactly my point. When the GeForce 3 came out, 3DMark 2001 had the Nature test only it could do, and it counted for points. But when ATI had the 8500 out with DirectX 8.1, they didn't make a test only it could run, or even make one that counted for points. Therefore, I assume the same thing will happen now. They will make a test that only the nVidia card will run. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When we developed 2001, the DirectX version we made it for was DX8.0. We made Nature using DX8 stuff. The fact that NVIDIA was the only company with full DX8 hardware out after 3DMark2001 is certainly not our bad. When DX8.1 came out and introduced the PS1.4, we made the Advanced PixelShader test that uses PS1.4. It was not an option to add 1 more game test using 1.4, since it would have changed the whole scoring system and we didn't want that. We wanted the scores to be comparable between 2001 and 2001 SE. They are not compatible, but comparable. So, the Adv. PS Test it was put as a feature test. As we have said, we produce and develope by DirectX specs, not by any "specs" of any manufacturer. If it is in DX, we can do it. If it is not, we don't. Simple. Again, if anyone thinks we work for, or against, some companies, take a look at the beta pages: http://www.futuremark.com/betaprogram/ It's pretty clear that all major players are BETA members.. --- In reply to: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hope 3dmark03 has a bit of variety rather than being based solely in some space-ships corridor. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All tests will be only dark, pitch black corridors.. --- In reply to: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Only 800x600 worm? That isn't the default test res, is it? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If I would tell you, I would spoil the fun! But really, if you think about it, why would we lower the default resolution? The pic is 800x600 because we know that x*n users want to see it, and to ensure that even laptop users can see it without having to scroll up&down and left&right. 640x480 would be too crude though! --- What I would like you all to keep in mind is that the shot is from 1 test. Now, as you all know, we can't have all tests tuned to insane detail level. Or do you think 1-2fps/test would be nice? Didn't think so.. Anyway, as some of you guys noticed, the scene uses a lot of shadows and stuff, so a still image just doesn't cut it. It must be seen moving in real-time! --- In reply to: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i thought this was a dx9 demo? (refers to screenshot -> Baxcorp) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A) 3DMark03 is not a "demo", it's a benchmark B) did you really think we would hand out the top of the cream already? --- Replying to someone who's guessing 1280*1024 will be default res ->Baxcorp Actually 1280x1024 is not a 4:3 resolution like 1024x768, 800x600 etc. 1280x960 is.
