There are many times we have the need to take complete control of a machine on our network, sometimes there is a person in the office that needs help and since they are six floors down it is just easier to take over their desktop until the task is complete and then return control to the local user, or sometimes we may be far away and need to access a machine at home. Other times you are like me and really don't feel like walking into the next room. Behold TightVNC. Its free and easy to use. * You will need some tools again. For your Windows XP machine you will need the TightVNC viewer and Server you can go http://www.tightvnc.com/ and grab that. Download the tightvnc-1.2.9-setup.exe package as it contains everything you need to get started. * for your Debian machine type: apt-get install vncserver and then apt-get install vncviewer * Connecting to the windows machine from the Linux machine is quite simple. Make sure you are in X-Windows or KDE and open a console. Type vncviewer and a GUI windows should appear that says VNC Server. If the VNCServer is runing on your windows machine, simply type the Local IP address of Windows machine. You should see your Windows Desktop appear before your eyes! You can control the mouse and keyboard just as it you were sitting at the Windows Machine itself! * Connecting to the Linux machine is a bit trickier but certainly not harder. Since Debian allows multiple users to utilize X Display the GUI at the same time, you can make vncserver setup a new X Display. at the prompt type vncserver It will ask for a password to protect the session from intruders. This will be your default password until you change it (see documnetation that comes with VNCServer) It will tell that the server listening on display :1 not display :0 which belongs to the primary X Server. * On your Windows Machine click start-->run--> all programs-->TightVNC-->TightVNC Fast Compression * A pop up will appear that say VNC Server: Type in the box linuxmachine Local IP Address:1 and enter the password for the VNCSession. mocht die niet werken, dan nog een google'tje; Om met het goede nieuws te beginnen. Een netwerk tussen Ubuntu en XP pro is prima mogelijk. In mijn netwerk thuis heb ik 2 XP pro, 1 XP home, 1 Windows 98 en 1 Ubuntu 7,10, 1 Ubuntu 7.04. Op de XP Home heb ik ook een een aparte harde schijf met een speciale versie van Ubuntu 7.10. En binnen dit netwerk 3 netwerkprinters die allen gebruikt kunnen worden. Echter bij het opzetten van dit netwerk ben ik in een aantal gevallen tegen lastig op te lossen problemen opgelopen. Stug doorgaan en door gebruik te maken van informatie op het internet of via dit forum werkt nu alles naar behoren. Ik neem aan dat je Ubuntu 7.10 heb geïnstalleerd. Mijn ervaring is dat 7.10 meer problemen kan geven dan de vorige versie (in een geval moest in terug naar 7.04 op de PC in het netwerk te krijgen). In het kort de te nemen stappen bij Ubuntu 1) Ga naar Systeem-Netwerk-Eigenschappen-Haal vink weg bij Zwervende modus-selecteer DHCP als configuratie 2) Ga naar Systeem-Beheer-Gedeelde Mappen-Installeer de pakketten Samba en NFS 3) Opnieuw Systeem-Beheer-Gedeelde Mappen-Voeg gedeelde map toe. 4) Ga naar Toepassingen-Hulpmiddelen-Terminalvenster- typ sudo smbpasswd -a (typ wachtwoord in en twee maal SMB wachtwoord) 5) De tweede harde schijf dient ook nog als gedeelde map te worden toegevoegd 6) Op de XP pro computer dient ook een thuisnetwerk te worden ingesteld. Volg hiervoor de instructies via de helpfunctie (benoem wel je thuisnetwerk MSHOME, dit is de standaardbenaming, zowel in XP als in Ubuntu). Zorg er wel voor dat je de mappen die je wil delen instelt als Sharing mappen. 7) Ga naar Locaties - Netwerk. Als je "geluk" heb dan staat op het scherm de naam van de XP pro en de Ubuntu PC op het scherm. Klik op de naam van de XP computer en je heb toegang tot de mappen op de XP computer Op de XP computer zou je via Start-My Networkplaces (of de Nederlandse tekst) ook de Ubuntu PC moeten zien en bestanden kunnen laden. Indien alles werkt dan kun je desgewenst ook nog een printer delen. Echter indien het niet direct werkt, dan wordt het zoeken. Ik heb daarvoor geen kant en klare oplossing. In mijn geval moest ik bij een van mijn XP Pro computer een aanpassing doen in het register. Mocht je tegen problemen aanlopen, adviseer ik je om de probleem melding in Google in te typen. Op die manier vind je bijna altijd het antwoord. Mijn ervaring is namelijk dat zeer velen tegen dezelfde problemen oplopen. bedoelt de ts niet gewoon een simpel netwerk waarbij je bestanden/printers kan delen? edit: o sorry dat staat beschreven in je tweede post.... :oops:
